The Best of 2015

Hurray!!!

The New Year is almost here!

How are you enjoying the holiday? I am downtown with my family enjoying the dry breeze and rustic dust of the Eastern Nigeria. Hope you saw my latest Travel Profile Post. I am having a great family time with loads of food, fun and selfiesss while trying hard to keep my booming weight in check. Surprisingly my mum said to me 'try not to put on more weight' and this is coming from someone who never believed I will be fleshy. Thanks to Happiness!

Looking back at 2015 in retrospect with its joys, trials and major milestones, here are a few of the very best...

With February comes the reveal of my entryway though I got criticised by Lohla for showing just a wall. Never mind, I have just moved into a new home and I'm so excited to announce to her that I have a perfect space for an entryway/foyer.

Travel Essentials + My Wishlist

I am super excited! This is the very first Christmas I am getting over 2weeks of holiday away from work so I am jetting off to Enugu (The Coal City State), Eastern Nigeria to spend the holidays with my family, my most cherished gift from God.

Travelling is a very fun activity and one of my favourite past time but one thing I hate about it, is the stress of packing my luggage for any trip. Talking about travelling, here's my own checklist of travel essentials for a fun and memorable holiday like the Christmas:

Project Decorate - One Room at a Time

Hey Homeowners,

Compliment of the season!

It's pretty obvious that yours truly is scarcely here. I have a lot going on around me and one of them I find worthy of celebrating is the launch of my foundation; Energyzn Lives Foundation.

I have come to know my purpose in life and I will live it through "Energyzn Lives Foundation" focused on giving back to the society through scholarships, community projects and empowerment programs.

Our flagship project termed "Project Decorate - One Room at a Time" will involve decorating one of the rooms or a playroom of an Orphanage Home within Lagos Metropolis. From next week, I will be visiting some of the orphanage homes and I am officially requesting that you also nominate some orphanage homes you feel should benefit from this project. #share #repost #nominate #thankyou

The project will kick off from January 10th, 2016, after we had picked an orphanage home and done the required financial appraisal. We are looking at unveiling this project on February 14th, 2016.

This project is also open to volunteering and sponsorship. It is an opportunity to volunteer your time, talents, skills and resources. #collaborate

Do not forget to like my pages on Facebook for more updates; HomeWorth Interiors and Energyzn Lives Foundation

Have yourself a fulfilling weekend......

But I Don't Feel Thankful....

What do you do when your life is going south?  What do you do when it is “THANKSGIVING” and you have just lost a loved one… or just lost your job… or just lost your marriage? Surely you cannot be expected to give thanks… can you?

November ends today and we all know its "Thanksgiving" month. It's a time to reflect and to consider all the ways we've been blessed. It's a time to give out gratitude to God for our families, our home, our health and our jobs. Ultimately, to count our blessings and hold close the ones we love.

I appreciate that perspective because I think that there is a lot to be said about a heart of gratitude. It's important to take the time to thank God for all that is good in our life.

But what if giving thanks meant more than just counting our blessings?

What if being thankful meant surrendering our struggles and trials too?

Our New Logo - Help Us Choose

Hey Homeowners,
How have we been? If you can read this, thank God that you are alive. It's "Thanksgiving" tomorrow for my American brothers and sisters. I hope to do a post on that...
I was MIA last week, the reason been that I was sick and hospitalised for 4days. You see this our body, you just never can tell when an ailment hits you. I was at Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria on Friday, 13th of November for an owambe, I felt a little sickly on our way back but didn't take it serious, I also planned a beach outing for Sunday but ended up staying indoors for the better part of Saturday and next. Then BAM! yours truly was hospitalised on Monday. How do you explain that biko (please)? The devil is a liar!

The good news is... that which didn't kill you, can only make you stronger! ‎

Ehen! I finally got to work on my company logo and stationary. I've been meaning to do this a long time ago but never got to until I stumbled on a colleague's  beautiful logo designed by @lekanblaze so I decided to give the graphic designer a try and I wasn't disappointed after all. He came up with these beautiful designs so, I am kinda torn between which to use.

House Hunting Tips - Making The Right Choice For Your Home

Source

House-hunting can be an exciting exercise and at the same time overwhelming. Choosing a new home either for rent or to buy is a major life decision just like marriage. Something not to be done in a hasty manner or you find yourself moving houses within a short space of time.

I have had to take up a rental in such a hurry; i was no doubt swayed by the space (a three bedroom bungalow with a front porch and a parking lot big enough to accommodate about three cars even though i had no car then, what a dream!) but played down on important stuffs. Fast forward to few months, I did not only have to contend with the distance to work, the edginess of the neighborhood to lack of power supply which also affected water supply, the dust-prone environment to the tiny wardrobes/closets, cabinetry and bathrooms. Thank goodness the rental agreement was just for one year!

I have put down some tips below to help you make the right choice for your new home:

Reminiscing On My Gambian Experience

Source

We all need a vacation! You know you need a vacation when you start getting on your own nerves. Invariably i'm saying this girl is overdue for a vacation before she explodes, please be nice and suggest very lovely and affordable destinations.

What better way to let go, relax and recharge than to jet off to a cool vacation spot. This time, we headed to The Gambia, a country in West Africa with it's capital as Banjul for a 5day getaway. All travel arrangements (flights, airport pickup and hotel reservation) was made by wakanow.com.

The exciting and restful five (5) days was spent in the luxurious Sheraton Gambia Hotel Resort & Spa, located in Serekunda, Gambia less than thirty (30) minutes from Banjul International Airport (BJL). The experience was one of a kind having me reminiscing over a vacation i embarked on a long time ago.

Let's Talk Decor: Wooden Wall Shelves

Hello Homeowners,
Yay! The weekend is here! Who is excited?
Here comes another post on "Let's Talk Decor" where i show you a particular decor accessory and how you can transform your home with it. I wrote the first post on this series here where i talked about Wallpapers and it was very much appreciated by homeowners. Today, lets talk wooden wall shelves

Wooden Wall Shelves also known as a counter, ledge, mantel or rack is a storage item used in a home, office or elsewhere to hold items of value that are being displayed, stored, or offered for sale. It is raised off the ground and usually anchored/supported on its shorter length sides by brackets. It can also be held up by columns or pillars. A shelf can be attached to a wall or other vertical surface, be suspended from a ceiling, be a part of a free-standing frame unit, or it can be part of a piece of furniture such as a cabinet, bookcase, entertainment center, some headboards, and so on. Usually two to six shelves make up a unit, each shelf being attached perpendicularly to the vertical or diagonal supports and positioned parallel. Depending on the color theme of your home, wall shelves could come in different colors from brown, black, white, etc:

How do you create a sophisticated design for your home with this decor item? Check out the makeover post here where i decorated a client's living room with the 5piece wooden shelves.
All you need do is to adorn the shelves with decorative pieces like vases, picture frames, scented candles, diffusers, books, arts or DIY objects. See more pictures below for inspiration:

One Year of Blogging + Lessons Learnt

Yes! You and I did it and together we can say "HomeWorth Interiors Blog" is ONE YEAR. Woooppp!

Honestly, I never knew my blog would come this far (I'm sure you perceived that from the tone of my writing) while i wrote my first post on September 4, 2014.

People have different goals for starting a blog; it's either to make money, improve their writing skill, have a voice out there, promote a business or passion and with different goals comes different expectations and measurement of success. Mine was to promote the business, HomeWorth Interiors

I wouldn't say i've succeeded in the goals i set out for this blog, that would rather amount to blasphemy! I have my highs and lows but I am only excited you could tell, that i made it thus far amidst the stress of a day job, a busy weekend and a family to cater for. I am not here to give tips or any of it's kind on how i got here but to share lessons i have learnt in this one year of blogging while i work on improving myself, the blog and becoming a brand name:

5 Ways to Make Your Small Space LIVABLE

Are you living in or moving into a small space? Frankly, living in a small space can pose a challenge, but with a few new ideas and a creative spirit, you can maximize and uplift even the smallest living quarters.
Who defined small by the way? It all boils down to how efficient and functional you make your home feel. I've lived in some small spaces I had to teach myself what really works. My last apartment as a single lady was the smallest ever (i lived there for good 4years) but it worked perfectly for me.

Here are 5 simple ways to help you live in your small apartment without messing with your renter's limitations:

  • Paint: Whoever told you that an "all-white color" palette will make an apartment look larger. He lied! This is a common misconception of small space design and i will put simply "there are no color rules for small spaces" Do your thing, if you want your room to feel light and airy (try a cool color) or warm and cozy (veer toward richer and warmer) or maybe you're craving a little drama (go over board with bold) but make sure it's personal and appeals to you.

The Big Reveal: Decor Project Completed

Hello Homeowners,
It's been a while i know. How have we been?

Recall we saw a sneak peak of an ongoing decor project here. Today, i am excited to announce to you that we have a complete reveal as promised. Remembering how this project started, i am glad that my client is very much excited about the new look just as i am.

I visited the "house of focus" on the 12th of July to have a look at the project, discuss ideas and needs and initiate a contract but before then, she has sent the "before" pictures below:

Blog Feature + A Sneak Peak

Hurray!!! Today is our 11month blog anniversary and we have a blog feature.

Oyinlola Sobowale is my blog crush and has become so many things to me in such a short time; a friend and a client. I cherish relationships a lot and with my business, it goes beyond the contract. I get to know my clients and their personality, this helps you as a decorator to pull together personal details and work them into the final vision of their home.

She was one of the winners of the last giveaway (yea, she got one of the cutest pillows i made and she adores it) and guess what? I am doing a decor makeover for her new home. There's a book shelve in Oyinlola's living room that i wanted to do away with but in getting to know her, i understand she loves to read a lot and cherishes that piece so, instead of doing away with it, it shall find a way in her space.

Which Room Got The Vote?

Hello Homeowners!

The week and the month of July ends today, just like that! I remember vividly that i celebrated my birthday a few days ago. Did you miss that? Did you forget to drop birthday wishes for me? It's never too late to show some love. I also got a blogger award, celebrated 10months on blogosphere and completed a decor project. July was indeed good to me! I can't wait to share my August mega blessings with you!

I am currently working on a decor project and after providing my client with the initial quotation, she opted to work just on her living room.

The VBA acknowledges individual bloggers for their quality work. This covers the quality of writing, uniqueness of the subjects covered and the quality of the photographs presented and this award is given to those who bring something special into the life of their readers (really, do i?).

Will You Ever Remodel a Rented Apartment?

As a decorator, I usually get these vibes from prospective customers and i HATE to hear them:
"I can't afford to do this in a rented apartment",
"This is not my house so i have a limit to what i can do"
"When i buy my own house, i will really decorate"
And the list goes on.......

Landlords make it even more difficult by insisting on no structural changes and generally require that apartments be returned to their original condition with some allowances for wear and tear (caution fees as the case may be)

HomeWorth Interiors got featured

Hello Homeowners,

I am feeling lazy and a bit under the weather today. I just don't feel like doing anything, not even to get out of bed. Please pardon me, It's gonna be a very SHORT & LAZY post.

Today's post is inspired by Chizzy from Chizzysignature Blog, who featured me on her blog. She was celebrating a milestone (3 months on blogsville) and decided to introduce and share with her readers, the great people she has meet on blog-world. I was surprised, thrilled and a little nervous when she asked me to send in a post. I was wondering exactly what to put out there that would be interesting. Writing the post, i had this jitters just the same way i felt writing my first blog post (obviously nervous even though it isn't an autobiography, Lol) but yea, i was able to write something. You can read the post here and i do hope you enjoy it....

Thank you Chizzy for featuring me and please remember to connect with her.

Cheers

Will You Still Use Carpets After Reading This?

Granted carpets have their unique look and feel… they are soft and comfy, bringing a warm look to a room. It’s important however to understand the demerits of carpet. Did you know that carpets are harbourers of allergens and trappers of toxins like pesticides that get tracked in from outside. Most synthetic carpets also contain VOCs.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) refer to organic chemical compounds which have significant vapor pressures and which can affect the environment and human health. VOCs are numerous, varied, and ubiquitous. Most scents or odours are of VOCs. Some are dangerous to human health or cause harm to the environment. Harmful VOCs are typically not acutely toxic, but instead have compounding long-term health effects. They can be man-made or natural.

Let's Talk Decor: Wallpaper

Hello Homeowners,
I am starting a new post series called "let's talk decor" which will focus on a particular decor accessory, discuss it's use, show pictures of how to achieve different decor styles and also direct you to where to shop. The idea was borne out of the fact that people tend to ask me a lot of times, what/how/where/when they can use a particular decor accessory. Also, i realized that post on decor tips are usually the most visited and commented especially the post on finding other uses for your shoe organizer. We all know that shoe organizer is somewhat an outdated organization item but we were able to see other ways to transform the home with it.

So today, let's talk wallpaper!

Find Other Uses For Your Shoe Organizer

Hello Homeowners,

You want to know what else you can do with your shoe organizer beside keeping your shoes? If you are like me that have more of high heeled shoes, then those pockets won't work for you. I got one as a wedding souvenir, converted it to a bathroom organizer and oh! it was quiet functional (thank me for the souvenir idea, just in case you are still making a list) and most of all - it's not expensive!

I will show you just a few pictures that you can easily relate with. So, keep calm and start organizing!

Do It Yourself - Pretty Girls Sew

After learning to cook, I'd highly encourage every girl/lady/woman to learn to sew. It's not always the cheaper route, but it's a good lesson in patience & perseverance and keeps you from sitting in front of the TV on a rainy day. Also, it's a BIG money-saver in the home. You can achieve a whole lot around the house with your sewing skills. Here is a few but the list is inexhaustible:

Here's My Grand Entryway

Hey! We are fifty-four days gone into 2015 but its never too late to welcome you into the New Year!!!!!! Opps! i meant welcome into my home through the eyes of my entryway.......your first view when you walk through my front door.

I decided to make the entryway both decorative and functional and again, i created a gallery wall above the credenza to showcase my family's precious memories. For the time being, its just my hubby and I but I will definitely fill up the spaces as my family grows.

TURF! How creative can you be?

Artificial turf is a surface of synthetic fibers made to look like natural grass. It is most often used in arenas for sports that were originally or are normally played on grass. However, it is now being used on residential lawns and commercial applications as well.
Artificial turf does have its downside: limited life, periodic cleaning requirements, petroleum use, toxic chemicals from infill, and some heightened health and safety concerns but its aesthetic advantages outweighs.

Kitchen Makeover In View

I remember vividly when hubby and I first came to check our apartment, i could barely find my way through the kitchen, it was DARK (from top of the ceiling to the walls) I mean, i wondered if the people that lived there cooked on firewood. It pains me that i have lost all the pictures we took of the dark apartment. Notwithstanding, i will still do a 'before and after' post of my kitchen makeover!

Then again, we are faced with the challenge of space; the kitchen and in fact the entire house is small and (that's what you get from a rented apartment in this part of the world *whew*) Well, my plan is to lighten up the kitchen and make it more functional and i am not giving up!

The orange cabinet below was what i had in mind but my search through kitchen designs ended up with a change of mind from orange to an off-white cabinet and a brown counter-top.

Events: Decor Meets Couture 2

Yes! I made it to the event on Saturday, 31st January at Oriental Hotel, Lekki. I went with a friend of mine, Rosie.

I must confess, the twin ladies behind the event are talented; Taiwo Debo-Akande of Adela's Haven and Kehinde Ogotimehin Belle D'Jour Couture (Oh! how i love and desire twins, only God knows).

I took a few personal pictures because we were not allowed to take pictures of the items on sale. That's their policy and it should be respected.

Simple Tips To Hang Your Drapes/Curtains

Hey homeowners, this post offers you a hint on the basics of hanging your drapes/curtains with or without the help of a handyman. Before you purchase your fabrics, you have to decide how long you want them to be (almost touch the floor or just puddle), whether they will be functional (one you can open and close) or simply decorative, fully stacked or not. The tips below will serve as guide:
