Let's Talk Decor: Wallpaper

Hello Homeowners,
I am starting a new post series called "let's talk decor" which will focus on a particular decor accessory, discuss it's use, show pictures of how to achieve different decor styles and also direct you to where to shop. The idea was borne out of the fact that people tend to ask me a lot of times, what/how/where/when they can use a particular decor accessory. Also, i realized that post on decor tips are usually the most visited and commented especially the post on finding other uses for your shoe organizer. We all know that shoe organizer is somewhat an outdated organization item but we were able to see other ways to transform the home with it.

So today, let's talk wallpaper!
Wallpaper is a material used to cover and decorate the interior walls of homes, offices, restaurants, cafes, etc. It is usually sold in rolls and is put onto a wall using wallpaper paste. Wallpapers comes in variations of plain (so that it can be painted or used to help cover uneven surfaces and minor wall defects thus giving a better surface) or textured (such as Anaglypta as it is durable and washable) and patterned giving you many more finish options from the warmth of leather or fabric to a much cooler metallic look, a more traditional look to an edgy ultra-modern look. The beauty of wallpaper is when it is used as a focal point in a space in addition to a matching paint color, and not necessarily in the whole room. Irrespective of the high cost of installation, it may surprise you to know that in the long run, wallpaper is actually a lot more economical than paint, as it is found to be more durable and can last as much as 5 times longer than paint which translates to about 10 – 15years in normal condition that is to say, wallpaper has come to stay as a unique alternative to paint especially the brick wallpapers which is in hot demand now.

Wallpaper may not be suitable for rooms with high humidity like kitchens and bathrooms, but they could create a stunning effect in your living room, bedroom, study room, offices, restaurant, cafes, etc. Wallpaper is no longer the headache to remove as in the past, thanks to modern removal systems meaning that it is possible to remove the paper from the wall in long strips. Taking the time to apply the wallpaper properly and using a good primer will also make removal easier.
