House Hunting Tips - Making The Right Choice For Your Home

Source

House-hunting can be an exciting exercise and at the same time overwhelming. Choosing a new home either for rent or to buy is a major life decision just like marriage. Something not to be done in a hasty manner or you find yourself moving houses within a short space of time.

I have had to take up a rental in such a hurry; i was no doubt swayed by the space (a three bedroom bungalow with a front porch and a parking lot big enough to accommodate about three cars even though i had no car then, what a dream!) but played down on important stuffs. Fast forward to few months, I did not only have to contend with the distance to work, the edginess of the neighborhood to lack of power supply which also affected water supply, the dust-prone environment to the tiny wardrobes/closets, cabinetry and bathrooms. Thank goodness the rental agreement was just for one year!

I have put down some tips below to help you make the right choice for your new home:

Reminiscing On My Gambian Experience

Source

We all need a vacation! You know you need a vacation when you start getting on your own nerves. Invariably i'm saying this girl is overdue for a vacation before she explodes, please be nice and suggest very lovely and affordable destinations.

What better way to let go, relax and recharge than to jet off to a cool vacation spot. This time, we headed to The Gambia, a country in West Africa with it's capital as Banjul for a 5day getaway. All travel arrangements (flights, airport pickup and hotel reservation) was made by wakanow.com.

The exciting and restful five (5) days was spent in the luxurious Sheraton Gambia Hotel Resort & Spa, located in Serekunda, Gambia less than thirty (30) minutes from Banjul International Airport (BJL). The experience was one of a kind having me reminiscing over a vacation i embarked on a long time ago.

Let's Talk Decor: Wooden Wall Shelves

Hello Homeowners,
Yay! The weekend is here! Who is excited?
Here comes another post on "Let's Talk Decor" where i show you a particular decor accessory and how you can transform your home with it. I wrote the first post on this series here where i talked about Wallpapers and it was very much appreciated by homeowners. Today, lets talk wooden wall shelves

Wooden Wall Shelves also known as a counter, ledge, mantel or rack is a storage item used in a home, office or elsewhere to hold items of value that are being displayed, stored, or offered for sale. It is raised off the ground and usually anchored/supported on its shorter length sides by brackets. It can also be held up by columns or pillars. A shelf can be attached to a wall or other vertical surface, be suspended from a ceiling, be a part of a free-standing frame unit, or it can be part of a piece of furniture such as a cabinet, bookcase, entertainment center, some headboards, and so on. Usually two to six shelves make up a unit, each shelf being attached perpendicularly to the vertical or diagonal supports and positioned parallel. Depending on the color theme of your home, wall shelves could come in different colors from brown, black, white, etc:

How do you create a sophisticated design for your home with this decor item? Check out the makeover post here where i decorated a client's living room with the 5piece wooden shelves.
All you need do is to adorn the shelves with decorative pieces like vases, picture frames, scented candles, diffusers, books, arts or DIY objects. See more pictures below for inspiration:

One Year of Blogging + Lessons Learnt

Yes! You and I did it and together we can say "HomeWorth Interiors Blog" is ONE YEAR. Woooppp!

Honestly, I never knew my blog would come this far (I'm sure you perceived that from the tone of my writing) while i wrote my first post on September 4, 2014.

People have different goals for starting a blog; it's either to make money, improve their writing skill, have a voice out there, promote a business or passion and with different goals comes different expectations and measurement of success. Mine was to promote the business, HomeWorth Interiors

I wouldn't say i've succeeded in the goals i set out for this blog, that would rather amount to blasphemy! I have my highs and lows but I am only excited you could tell, that i made it thus far amidst the stress of a day job, a busy weekend and a family to cater for. I am not here to give tips or any of it's kind on how i got here but to share lessons i have learnt in this one year of blogging while i work on improving myself, the blog and becoming a brand name:

5 Ways to Make Your Small Space LIVABLE

Are you living in or moving into a small space? Frankly, living in a small space can pose a challenge, but with a few new ideas and a creative spirit, you can maximize and uplift even the smallest living quarters.
Who defined small by the way? It all boils down to how efficient and functional you make your home feel. I've lived in some small spaces I had to teach myself what really works. My last apartment as a single lady was the smallest ever (i lived there for good 4years) but it worked perfectly for me.

Here are 5 simple ways to help you live in your small apartment without messing with your renter's limitations:

  • Paint: Whoever told you that an "all-white color" palette will make an apartment look larger. He lied! This is a common misconception of small space design and i will put simply "there are no color rules for small spaces" Do your thing, if you want your room to feel light and airy (try a cool color) or warm and cozy (veer toward richer and warmer) or maybe you're craving a little drama (go over board with bold) but make sure it's personal and appeals to you.

The Big Reveal: Decor Project Completed

Hello Homeowners,
It's been a while i know. How have we been?

Recall we saw a sneak peak of an ongoing decor project here. Today, i am excited to announce to you that we have a complete reveal as promised. Remembering how this project started, i am glad that my client is very much excited about the new look just as i am.

I visited the "house of focus" on the 12th of July to have a look at the project, discuss ideas and needs and initiate a contract but before then, she has sent the "before" pictures below:

Blog Feature + A Sneak Peak

Hurray!!! Today is our 11month blog anniversary and we have a blog feature.

Oyinlola Sobowale is my blog crush and has become so many things to me in such a short time; a friend and a client. I cherish relationships a lot and with my business, it goes beyond the contract. I get to know my clients and their personality, this helps you as a decorator to pull together personal details and work them into the final vision of their home.

She was one of the winners of the last giveaway (yea, she got one of the cutest pillows i made and she adores it) and guess what? I am doing a decor makeover for her new home. There's a book shelve in Oyinlola's living room that i wanted to do away with but in getting to know her, i understand she loves to read a lot and cherishes that piece so, instead of doing away with it, it shall find a way in her space.
